Alright, alright. We’ve all heard it.
Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar are adding to their brood. She’s having their 20th child.
[I’ll allow you a moment to process that if you haven’t already.]
I immediately went to Twitter this morning to see what the peeps were saying about this news. I’ll sprinkle some of the tweets that caught my eye throughout this post.
But seriously? They don’t bother me. They really don’t. They live their lives, I live mine. They’re different. And I like that. And they’re not different for different’s sake, they’re different because they are STRONGLY convicted that they’re living the life they’re supposed to live. Not many others can say that.
Are you living by your true convictions?
And their kids? They seem abnormally kind, cheerful, well-adjusted, resourceful, intelligent and respectful.
While I’m sorry the girls will never know the joy that comes from wearing a really great pair of jeans (or pants, for that matter), and I’m sorry that the entire family sometimes must wear the same color shirt on family outings — they’re happy.
I’ll admit it, I was sort of shocked to hear that Michelle was pregnant again… I thought (and had hoped) after the Josie-scare they would have practiced more concientious family planning. But lo and behold, Baby #20 is on the way.
I’m scared for Michelle. I really like her, but I’m nervous that her 45-year-old body, that has already been through the ringer FAR too many times, can’t handle this. And,I’m nervous for that baby.
But am I worried about if this child will be loved? No.
Am I worried about if this child will be well-taken care of and a productive member of society? No.
Are there worse situations for a child to be born into? UM. ABSOLUTELY.
Family planning, and lacktherof, has never been, nor will be, a matter of public discussion for me. Fortunately, we don’t live in China or a third-world-country that is attempting to thwart our rights to do as we wish with our bodies and our families. Nope. Some choose to have babies (a bunch of ’em) and some chose not to. Some can have children naturally, and some cannot. Nature is funny (and really tragic) this way.
I can’t help but think about The Little Couple on TLC and how they’re doing everything they can to have one biological child… [heavy sigh…]
Do I think that Jim Bob and Michelle are being selfish? Outwardly, it looks that way. However, they look at it as if it were a sacrifice — a sacrifice for their unborn child akin to what they feel that Jesus did for them.
And here we come back to those convictions and beliefs…
…I will respect anyone* who walks what they believe. And these Duggars do.
