When I tucked you into bed on your birthday eve, I held you for a little bit longer than I normally do…
I thanked God for you.
I told you again that you are the baby we prayed and waited for.
As I held you in my arms, with your head cuddled against my heart, I said, “Lila we are so proud of you. We’re proud of the little girl you’ve become. I’m proud of your heart; and how kind you are…”
I continued… (but some things are better left between Mommy and daughter.)
And the whole time I spoke to you, you smiled. And you softly and delicately brushed your fingers along my arm. Soothing me.
Because you are a sweet, sweet, sweet soul.
When I was finished holding you and it was time for bed, I made sure to say what I want you to know forever: I love you, just.as.you.are.
Because seriously, you.are.the.coolest.
Your energy is infectious.
And you’re funny.
You are the cutest little thing EVER.
You love to paint.
You paint every.single.day.
I’m not kidding.
You’re deliberate and thoughtful. You have a plan. I admire this about you.
You started mixing colors this year and changing your techniques. It’s been pretty cool to watch. And you’re at the point where you don’t even really get paint on your hands anymore. How is this possible?
You love to color and create and and draw and decorate.
You made this a couple of days ago.
That’s me on the left (big ears and jazz hands), your Dad on the right (also big ears and jazz hands) and Ferg on the bottom right. (Love that tail.)
You omitted Vivienne and Millie…
The head tilt and that grin.
And I love you so much.
That smile. That light in your eyes.
That quiet, reflection.
Oh, you’re growing up.
And it’s so awesome.
Look what happens in a year.
I love you, Lila Ross.
I am so very, very happy you were born.
Happy, happy birthday to you.
