I picked up the girls from school.
Vivi was holding a piece of notebook paper folded into a square in her little hand.
I asked her what it was.
She unfolded it and handed it to me.
“Who is it from?,” I asked.
“My sister.”

I guess they had a little disagreement during their talent show preparation at school.
So, Lila wrote Vivi a note.
I’ll translate it below. (Remember, she’s bilingual. Spelling comes in time.)
“Vivi. I am so sorry if I hurt your feelings. And, whenever I get an honor card [a reward they get at school], I’ll let you pick. I love you.”
::
My heart.
It kind of exploded.
Lila hurt her sister’s feelings.
And, she made it right.
THIS is life.
We make mistakes, we ask for forgiveness and we make it right.
And, we build one another up. Because our words have power.
::
Translation: Vivi’s name in the middle
“Amazing, Loving, Intelligent, Lover, Careful, Playing, Heart.”
::
This is the reminder I needed today.
Peace is waiting for us just behind an apology.
Peace is waiting for us just beyond acknowledgment.
Peace is waiting for us…
::
I think what makes my heart sing about this whole little note-giving situation is that it all happened without my intervention.
These little girls who argue and tattle and hug and play and live life together are going to be just fine.
