A quick recap of the 2021 Emmy Red Carpet for ya! (YAY! It’s fun to be back!)
First off, the men BROUGHT IT this year with the fashion.
Seth Rogen’s theme was pumpkin spice. Very autumnal. Very seasonal. Very appropriate.

I’m 100% here for Kenan Thompson’s pink look. How great does he look?!
I’m like, happy for him.

A quick look at the fancy men.
Kindly note the following:
1.) Zach Braff is aging beautifully.
2. I’m grateful for Trevor Noah.
3. Leon Bridges looked (and sounded) amazing.
4. Bowen Yang’s shoes for the absolute WIN.
5. Anthony Anderson’s jacket is FANTASTIC.
Sterling K Brown Zach Braff Trevor Noah Leon Bridges Karamo Brown Daniel Dae Kim Eugene Levy Cedric the Entertainer Bowen Yang Bo Burnham Billy Porter Anthony Anderson O-T Fagbenle
My best dressed in the world-o-the men is a Ted Lasso tie: Jason Sudekis and Brett Goldstein.
I’m fairly certain I cried when Jason was accepting his emmy. I also love Roy Kent so much. And the Ted Lasso show. AND EVERY character on the show, even Jamie Tart.)
And Hannah Waddingham looked AMAZING in Christian Siriano! AMAZING.
Jason Sudeikis Brett Goldstine & Hannah Waddingham
Ok, on to the ladies.
These two ladies sported a similar vibe and… I kind of like them.
So Aidy Bryant wore this to the Emmy’s.
Assuming it’s her friends, Rodarte. I’m SO conflicted.
1.) I think she looks ADORABLE.
2.) I love the headband.
3.) It’s OLIVE green and I’m super in to olives right now…
4.).I don’t know. Thoughts?
5.) It just feels like this doesn’t quite read well for an awards show.
I’m a no.
(Thanks for letting me work through that.)

So tea-length dresses were a thing.
I’m fine with that.
You and I BOTH know that Shelby’s bridesmaids wore exactly this in Steel Magnolias 35 years ago.

I’m here for EVERYTHING but the top-knot. (I like less an oval, more of a circle.) Taraji P. Henson looks amazing. (So many transparent / tulle dresses!)

I absolutely LOVED this on Elizabeth Olsen. Gorgeous. That silhoutette is amazing. The styling is perfection.
BUT…
I do see how you might hate this. It sort of looks like a Halloween ghost peep.

SO, Angela Bassett is amazing. BUT THIS is absolutely horrific.
It’s like the gown is ASKING us (?) if we like it.
I’ll answer for the group: no.

Allison Janney looked so sophisticated and lovely.

Who wore it better?
I’m going with Akilah.
Dan Levy Akilah Green
It feels like even Renee isn’t feeling this either.
WHO, on EARTH, wants their belly sticking out of little triangle-sized openings?
NO. This is awful.
BUT **her acceptance speech** on behalf of Hamilton was BEYOND lovely.

Now you KNOW I love a pattern. For the record, I want you to know that I cannot abide ANY of these.
They are upholstery.
And this is sad.
Amber Ruffin
Robin Thede is wearing mint perfection. It’s so feminine and lovely. I love it. (Her styling is perfection, too.)

In the “Walking Highlighters” category, we have these three gowns.
I’m just not feeling the bra tops.
I do love Kaley’s, though. Fun.
Paulina Alexis Michaela Coel Kaley Cuoco
WHO doesn’t love Kate Winslet?

Samira Wiley won the Pantsuit Compeition.
Why is Kathryn Hahn’s BELT SO BIG? Gah, enough. I CAN SEE IT!
Rita Wilson Samira Wiley Kathryn Hahn
I WANT TO LOVE THIS, but I just feel like they were focusing far too much on the BOTTOM of the dress. The top is not quite fitting properly…

For those wondering, pink is STILL my favorite color. (A blush, light pink.)
Beth and Hannah below look AMAZING.
Susan Kelechi Watson Sophia Bush Beanie Feldstein Beth Behrs Hannah Einbinder
These ladies ALL looked lovely.
Olivia Coleman’s cape was more of a red on TV and I think it was amazing. And Jean Smart is timeless and I have LOVED her since Designing Women. (Can I get an amen? I loved the Sugarbakers.)
And I’m so glad we have Mindy Kaling in this world.
Olivia Coleman Mindy Kaling Ellen Pompeo Jean Smart
Aw, Rosie Perez looks like a LITTLE BURST OF JOY.
I love this, but it just felt way too… mature for her.

Kerry Washington looked fine, but DARE I see her corset didn’t look like it fit her well. Too severe, this whole look.
Emma Corrin‘s nod to The Handmaid’s Tale was… different. I don’t like a bonnet on a grown woman here or in Gilead.
Zuri Hall slayed that gown. (AND I LOVE HER BIG HAIR.)
Kerry Washington Emma Corrin Annaleigh Ashford Jurnee Smollett Zuri Hall
Amy’s introduction was amazing.
Her outfit is SO, SO, SO terrible. I literally hate it.
Shaking my head.
The jacket is too big, it’s all bad.

I adore Jennifer Coolidge.
She looks amazing. (Did you watch The White Lotus?)

Absolutely gorgeous. Why no necklace or bracelet?
I need more bling.

This, my friernds, is a half a dozen of b-o-r-i-n-g.
I mean.
Meh.
America Ferrera Oona Obeirn Annie Murphy Jamie Lee Carl Clemons Hopkins Ariel Dumas
This is pretty much the opposite of meh.
Nicole Meyer went big.
I kind of love it. It’s fun.

Oh hello, happy Mandy Moore. LOVE the top half of this dress, not so much the bottom. So. Many. Layers. (I undestand how the previous dress has a boat load of layers and how you might thing this is somewhat hypocritical.)
But, I don’t know… very few people can pull off wings attached to their hips.

Beautiful.
I mean, flawless.
Kinda boring, though.
This is pasta with butter. This is a banana. This is vanilla.

And the looks I hated?
Madeline Brewer.
This is a swimsuit coverup.
And those shoes belong to Daniel Levy.

This feels messy and I don’t like it.

This acquatic number just looks DATED.
This is a Class of 1990 leftover prom number.
Blech.

Ok, on to my absolute favorites:
First, Sarah Paulson.
This is INCREDIBLE. I love, love, LOVE the top and the puffy sleeves. Her makeup and hair are SPOT on. I ADORE this.

Yara Shahidi is FLAWLESS. I don’t think anyone else was wearing that color. She rocked the tea length. The dress was perfection and the necklace is amazing. I LOVE the shoe choice, too.
EXCELLENT.

And now for my absolute favorite: Anya Taylor Jordan.
(I KNOW!!! I am SHOCKED myself!)
I just love the elegance of this. I love the cut, I love the colors, I love how regal.
This was a check mate*.
(*I have no idea if that chess reference / Queen Gambit’s reference even makes sense.)
Flawless.
What did YOU think?! Tell me!
